When I was growing up, I dreamed of one day visiting and living in Australia. I looked at it as a destination, a place that I could see and feel in my mind.

In 2014, I made the decision that I was going to move back to Melbourne. I moved back, started my first full time job in the public sector and began building up my life in Melbourne. This move was not based on any professional opportunity; I just wanted to be closer to my family.
I built a life here. I went to my first local bar, started drinking a bit more, made new friends and found myself a small office job.
It was around this time that I decided that I wanted to leave my job and start working for myself. I did some research and found that I could start my own business and grow my skills at the same time. I came to the conclusion that I wanted to be a Realtor.
Realtor was just a part time job. It was a flexible role and I could do it from home, it had some benefits and the hours were good.

Yet, we are still a long way from knowing how the city looks and how it works. When it comes to New York, we still do a lot of good old, green, land-and-sky models. There are multiple sources of data about the city, and this is true for many cities, but in New York, we have access to a particularly rich data set: the City Data Explorer (available from the NYC Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications).
City Data Explorer is a powerful GIS and spatial analysis platform that serves as the foundation for dozens of citywide applications, such as those used to analyze urban development, land use and environmental quality.
